SHEIN Button-Front Plaid Dress
50s Contrast Faux Fur Plaid Flare Dress
Hello lovelies, I am excited to share with you a new series on my channel called Style Me Vintage, where I talk about a specific decade in history and discuss how you can create this look today with a modern twist using contemporary clothes you can still buy today. I thought I would start the series with the 1950s because it is one of my favorite decades for fashion inspiration.
I don’t dedicate my style to a specific decade and like to wear fashions from all decades. My goal is to still look contemporary with a vintage twist instead of looking like I am wearing a costume. For those of you who don’t know about 1950s fashion let me give you a summary of the key looks that were popular during this time. In 1947 Christian Dior’s “New Look” was the main source or influence for the entire decade. Unpadded, rounded shoulders, shapely bust lines, closely-defined waistlines, and full, billowy skirts defined the new, more feminine style of dressing. The alternative silhouette consisted of blouses, jeans, and long, narrow skirts were also quite popular. The full, billowy skirt and natural waistline were quite popular for a number of dresses during the 1950s. This type of casual attire was the hallmark of 1950s fashions.
As you can see the three dresses I selected from SheIn have a subtle 1950s inspiration with the full skirt, emphasized natural waistline, shapely and emphasized bustlines with large collars that draw attention to my chest and neckline.
Let me know what decade is your main source of fashion inspiration.
