A Retrospective Look at Beauty Products from the 90s
Blog Introduction: Step into a time machine and take a look back to the 90s, when scrunchies, denim jackets, and lipgloss were must-haves. It’s no surprise that beauty products in the 90s played a major role in defining fashion trends. But what were the go-to products of choice? Let’s take a look at five of them!

Lipgloss: Lipgloss was an essential part of any fashionable girl’s makeup routine in the 90s. Glosses came in all different colors and textures, from shimmery pink to ultra-matte blackberry. The most popular brands included Bonne Bell, Lipsmackers, and Maybelline. Lipgloss was often worn alone or layered over lipstick for a more dramatic effect.

Mascara: Mascara may be a timeless product but it was especially popular during the 90s. Women would layer on multiple coats of mascara for a bold look that perfectly complemented their darkly lined eyes. Some of the top mascaras of the era included CoverGirl Lash Blast, L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara, and Maybelline Great Lash Mascara.

Hair Spray: Hair spray was an absolute must-have for achieving sleek and voluminous hairstyles like crimped curls or bouncy blowouts. Popular brands included Aqua Net Extra Super Hold Hair Spray, Pantene Pro-V Anti-Frizz Hairspray, and TRESemme Freeze Hold Hairspray.

Nail Polish: Nail polish also experienced its heyday during this decade with bright colors like neon green and baby blue becoming increasingly popular choices for manicures and pedicures alike. OPI’s line of nail polishes was especially well-loved by women who wanted to make a statement with their nails—and there were plenty of other options available as well including Essie Nail Polish and Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Nail Polish.

Perfume: Last but certainly not least is perfume; fragrances from Calvin Klein, Giorgio Armani, Lancome, DKNY Be Delicious Perfume, and Curve cologne were some of the most sought after scents among women in the 1990s due to their fresh yet sensual aromas.

The beauty products from the 1990s were nothing short of iconic! From lipgloss to hairspray to nail polish— these products helped define beauty trends throughout this decade and will always have a special place in our hearts (and vanities). Whether you’re looking to get creative with your makeup looks or just reminisce on days gone by, these retro beauty products are sure to spark nostalgia!
