Hello lovelies, today I will be discussing Elizabeth Taylor’s makeup in the film Cleopatra. 

Cleopatra was the highest-grossing film of 1963, earning box-office of $57.7 million in the United States and Canada, and one of the highest-grossing films of the decade at a worldwide level. However, it initially lost money due to its production and marketing costs of $44 million. It received nine nominations at the 36th Academy Awards, including for Best Picture, and won four: Best Art Direction (Color), Best Cinematography (Color), Best Visual Effects and Best Costume Design (Color).

Cleopatra was so popular in the 1960s that Revlon created a Cleopatra makeup collection inspired by the film. The advertisements feature a black cat and a sphinx inspired makeup look—this makeup tutorial inspired by the film and the vintage Revlon collection.

Elizabeth Taylor Cleopatra Eyes – A Simple Guide.

1. Use a blue eye shadow over the entire lid, all the way up to brow bone.

2. Apply the Blue to the outer corner of lids and blend inwards. 

3. Apply liquid liner over your lower lids just under the waterline and then smudge with a cotton bud.

5. Apply liquid liner to the upper eyelid, starting on the outer edge.

6. Add two Cleopatra wings from the corner of each eye, stroking the lower wing slightly downwards and beyond the natural end of your brow. Draw the upper wing upwards about half a centimeter shorter than the lower line. Draw a line between the two endpoints and fill in.

7. Finish the look with blue glitter eyeshadow and mascara.
