Lips in the 1930s were painted with a brush to create a longbow effect for the top lop and a smaller bottom lip. This 1930s lip style was called a rosebud mouth or cruller. The top of the lip is slightly overdrawn and flares out at the corner of the lips. Joan Crawford became known for her sharp bow on her over the mouth, which was drawn on and exaggerated.
In the 1930s, lipstick sales increased dramatically compared to the 1920s, and the shades were also bolder compared to previous decades. Shades were on the brighter end of the spectrum and included bright red, orange, raspberry, and pale pink.
