When I was growing up in Victoria I always had this dream of one day moving to a big city like New York or L.A. When I was 25 I was given the opportunity to move to L.A. for a fashion design internship. This was a dream come true for me. I couldn’t wait to spend the summer living in a city I fantasized about as a child. At the end of the summer I went home on the plane staring out the window into the sunset. At that moment in time I realized that L.A. isn’t that amazing city you see in the movies. I think Kramer’s quote from Seinfeld sums up my experience.
Kramer:
“What do you want me to say? That the things haven’t worked out the way that I planned? That I’m struggling, barely able to keep my head above water? That L.A. is a cold place even in the middle of the summer? That it’s a lonely place even when your stuck in traffic at the Hollywood Freeway? That I’m no better than a screenwriter driving a cab, a starlet turning tricks, a producer in a house he can’t afford? Is that what you want me to say? “
