Today I will be talking all about Mae West and all of her favorite beauty products that you can still buy today. Mae was born on August 17, 1883, and was an American actress, singer, playwright, screenwriter, comedian, and sex symbol. Her entertainment career spanned seven decades, and she was known for her lighthearted jokes and sexual independence. The American Film Institute named her 15th among the greatest female stars of classic American cinema.
Mae West loved perfumes, and her favorite perfumes were Bal A Versailles, Joy, and Shocking by Schiaparelli.
Bal A Versailles by Jean Desprez Perfume. Bal a Versailles will take you back in time with its luscious, sophisticated scent created by the design house of Jean Desprez. This feminine fragrance, introduced in 1962, is an oriental, floral scent that is perfect for nighttime social events and formal gatherings.
Joy is a perfume created for Parisian couturier Jean Patou by perfumer Henri Alméras in 1929. It is considered to be one of the most magnificent fragrances created and is a landmark example of the floral genre in perfumery. Joy is composed primarily of a combination of jasmine and rose; 10,000 jasmine flowers and 28 dozen roses are required to create 30ml of the perfume.
Schiaparelli’s perfumes were known for their unusual packaging and bottles. Her best-known perfume was called “Shocking!” that came out in 1936. Leonor Fini sculpted its bottle in the shape of a women’s torso inspired by Mae West’s tailor’s dummy and Dalu paintings of flower sellers.
Like any old Hollywood film stars, Mae West loved Max factor. She used the Max Factor Creme Puff and the Max Factor Pan Stik foundation. She also loved Revlon lipstick, and her favorite shade was Revlon Strawberry Vanilla lipstick in the shade 93. Mae West would apply a layer of Vaseline over her eyelids after she applied her grey eyeshadow. She said that it added a lovely soft look to her eyes, especially for on camera.
Mae West also used coconut oil as her go-to moisturizer and claimed that it was the secret behind her youthful complexion that she famously maintained for decades. She also loved baby oil as a moisturizer and said the secret was putting it on warm, and you have to have a man put it all over you.
