I have been dyeing my hair for a few years now, and it has taken a severe toll on the overall health and appearance of my hair. I guess you could say my hair has become damaged and over-processed. I am also trying to grow out my hair, and this has been difficult because it is so damaged and as a result, my ends keep splitting and breaking off. I was excited to take the L’Oréal® Paris Elvive diagnostic quiz to find out how damaged my hair was and which products would be a suitable treatment for my hair. After taking the quiz and thoroughly examining the ends of my hair and split ends, I concluded that my hair wasn’t as damaged as I thought. It turns out that it was, a level 3 on the damaged scale out of 5. If your hair is at a level 3, it sometimes feels dry at the ends and can be difficult to comb through when wet. The main thing that I noticed was that my split ends were split into a “Y” instead of splitting three ways or feathered. Based on the quiz it was suggested that I apply a heat protectant after I wash my hair like Elvive Total Repair 5 Protein Recharge Treatment. As a way to keep my hair moisturized and erase all of the damage and prevent new breakage, the quiz suggested that I use Elvive Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm. Lastly, I was also recommended the Elvive Extraordinary Oil to use as a finishing polish to my dry ends and to smooth out the flyaways.

After I gathered my results from the quiz and made a list of the products that I needed, I went to Target to purchase my L’Oréal Elvive products from the hair care aisle. As you can see in my before photos, my hair looked dry and damaged with fly-aways and dry split ends. I started out with Elvive Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm, applied it to my wet hair in the shower and left it in for a few minutes. Since my hair was already damaged from coloring, I was excited to see the results after just one use. I loved the creamy and thick texture and found that it was so easy to comb through my wet hair. Since I blow dry my hair on a regular basis, it was suggested that I use a heat protectant like Elvive Total Repair 5 Protein Recharge to protect my hair against heat tools up to 450 degrees. I noticed how soft and manageable my hair was after I blow dried it. My ends were still a little dry and damaged, and I had a few fly-aways so ended my blow out with Elvive Extraordinary Oil to finish off the look and smooth out my hair on the ends. I was a little nervous that the oil would make my hair feel and look greasy, but I was pleasantly surprised because it made my hair so soft and silky. My hair is naturally coarse and wavy if I let it air dry and find that this oil helps to tame the frizz and makes my ends feel smooth and soft instead of dry and damaged. As you can see in the after photos, my hair looks smoother and less frizzy with softer ends. I am excited to see the results over time and watch my hair grow.
