Hello lovelies, today I will be discussing Dita Von Teese’s secret Hollywood diet.
Below is an interview with Dita Von Teese from Bon Appetite Magazine:
In Your Beauty Mark, you mention that you prefer vodka to other spirits. Why?
I love a properly made dirty, dry vodka martini. I don’t like drinks that are too sweet, and I don’t like to drink my calories.
You also mention that you have an extensive mustard collection. Explain.
When I was living in Paris, I learned the joys of having a nice roasted chicken with a spicy mustard. I had a lot of leisure time while living there, so I would cook often and loved perusing the gourmet markets. I love exotic Maille mustards, like the Celeri Ravé and Truffle. There are so many others that I’d like to try.
What food(s) are you powerless against?
My vice is having really good tacos with a nice smoky shot of sipping mezcal. I also occasionally love an In-N-Out Burger, or a 3 a.m. hotel room service burger after a show. I try to make good choices in my day-to-day diet, usually eating vegan before 6 pm so that I can feel free to indulge when I want to.
Do you consider yourself vegan?
I’m not vegan, but I love good vegan restaurants. I’m interested in consuming less animal products, plus I have more energy when I don’t eat meat.
You know a lot about good bread. What are your favorite bakeries around the world?
Well, back to Paris. They know how to make bread. I used to love riding around on my bicycle with a hot (half-eaten) loaf of bread in my basket. And don’t get me started on the croissants.
In the book, you mention a few staple dishes you keep on rotation (kabocha squash soup, sweet potatoes, a dressing for green salads). How do you prep for the week ahead?
I always have a few go-to meals, like eggs, avocado, and millet bread. I love toasted gluten-free bread with avocado and truffle or smoked sea salt on top. I like to baste eggs in broth or cook them in ramekins with sautéed mushrooms and herbs. I also always have my green smoothie ingredients on hand. I love leftovers, so I like to make big pots of kabocha squash or parsnip soup, and I always have arugula and cherry tomatoes so that I can make a simple salad with a touch of rice vinegar and olive oil and some pine nuts.
You also write about your love for morning oatmeal. What’s your favorite combination right now?
Right now I’m really into buckwheat hot cereal with cardamom and saffron. I also love to steep hot water with perfumed teas and then make my oatmeal with that, or I like to use a matcha latte powder to make a sweet and green breakfast cereal.
Dita Von Teese’s Morning Routine from Vogue Magazine:
What is the very first thing that you do when you wake up?
Drink a large glass of water, preferably with fresh lemon.
Early bird or night owl?
It depends. I am an early bird normally, but when I’m on tour with my revue, Burlesque: Strip, Strip, Hooray!, I’m a night owl. I do prefer mornings and having full days.
What time do you like to get up in the morning?
I just like to have seven to nine hours of sleep. Ideally, when I’m not performing, I’m up by 8 or 9:0o a.m. But when it’s a show day, I have to be at peak alertness from 8 to 11:00 p.m., so I try to sleep until noon or later.
Do you press the snooze button, or jump right up?
I sometimes hit snooze when I don’t have to be anywhere, but I’m up quickly and easily when my alarm goes off. I am a very light sleeper. I wake up to quiet harp sounds or little bells. I can’t stand traditional wake-up calls or alarms.
What is your morning beauty regime?
Drinking water, taking vitamins, washing my face, and moisturizing. Obviously, brushing teeth comes before everything though!
What is your breakfast of choice?
I have a green smoothie, which is 70 percent green and 30 percent fruit, as advised in **Kimberly Snyder’**s book Beauty Detox Foods. If I’m still hungry, about an hour or two after that, I have toasted millet or rice bread with avocado on top and a sprinkling of smoky or truffled sea salt. I love infused sea salt.
